Breathe. This Isn’t About Death (But Kind of, Yeah, It Is)

Take a breath.

Inhale. Hold. Exhale slowly.

Okay. That’s better.

Let’s be real for a second.

This blog?
It’s not about death.
But also… yeah. Kind of.

Not in the grim, everyone-is-going-to-die way.
More in the “let’s get things together just in case” kind of way.

Because the truth is, you don’t have to be dying for your life to suddenly get complicated.
You could get sick.
Be in recovery.
Get stuck somewhere without phone service.
Or just be unreachable for a few days, for a plethora of reasons.

And then what?

If something happens… who knows what to do?

  • Who can get into your house?
  • Who feeds the dog?
  • Does anyone know your cat’s vet?
  • Who pays your bills?
  • Would your people even know where to start?

Real Talk:

When my mom passed away, I took care of my cat sister.
Of course I did. Without question.

But then, my mom’s fur daughter got sick.

And that’s when I realized:
I had no idea who her vet was.
No file. No note. No fridge magnet. Nothing.

So I did what anyone would do. I Googled a new vet.

And while that worked,
It would’ve been comforting to take her to someone who knew her.
Instead, it was one more thing to figure out during a really hard time.

It wasn’t a disaster.
But it was a reminder.

This is the kind of stuff we can fix.

We can’t control everything. But we can control this:

  • Having a spare key someone knows about
  • Leaving emergency info on the fridge
  • Keeping a simple folder or checklist somewhere obvious
  • Writing down the name of the vet, for crying out loud

Start small. Today, just take stock:

  • Could someone step into your life, even temporarily, and figure it out?
  • Would they find clear instructions—or a scavenger hunt?
  • What’s one thing you could prep now that might save someone stress later?

This isn’t about being morbid.
This is about being thoughtful.

It’s not about doing everything.
It’s about starting somewhere.

Breathe. This isn’t meant to stress.

Just a little nudge.
A little clarity.
A little love.

And if you need a place to begin—I’ve got you.

A free checklist is coming soon.
It’s short, simple, and designed to help you start organizing the things that really matter—just in case.

Until then… take stock.
You’re not behind. You’re right on time.
